Let’s Invigorate The City!
Vitalise Whangarei is a group of retailers and business people committed to putting the vibe back into our city. We were responsible for bringing you the “Late Night Laneway” in the summer of 2016 and the first Christmas tree to be erected in the CBD in 13 years. This purpose built tree will now be a fixture in the Laneway every Christmas. We are a dedicated group, working to bring more events to be enjoyed by all through planning open air events and free broadcasting of games to our city centre. We hope to create a vibrant environment, putting the fun back into Whangarei.
Combined with the waterfront, Quarry, Forum North and markets we can develop a lively CBD with people moving through the areas enjoying a vibrant, bustling environment with plenty of activity and opportunities for young and not so young. We aim to take the focus away from alcohol and onto food and entertainment, and to minimise the undesirable elements that loiter and cause damage. Evenings and weekends will be enhanced with a variety of entertainment which will not only stand alone but be designed to promote and enhance other events in the area such as entertainment at the library, Town Basin and Forum North. People will be encouraged to walk between events which will fit in with council’s initiatives to connect town and Basin with a walkway, and will give people a reason to do so.
